居延,是汉代边塞苦寒之地.但作为随军戍卒家属,由于有官府较充足的食粮供给、较好的医疗保障等,和平时期,汉代随军下层妇女衣食无忧.她们的生活与汉代内地下层妇女有诸多相似,如一夫一妻制,早婚习俗等;同时作为边塞妇女,她们屯田、守卫城防,又从事着与内地妇女不同的劳作.

关于汉代下层妇女生活，正史中记载很少。而上个世纪出土的居延汉简中有部分是记录屯戍吏卒家属情况的，本文试根据《居延汉简释文合校》和《居延新简》所录释文，对汉代居延地区下层妇女生活予以考察①。
